Blue Velvet Roulade

I have a small confession to make this post is completely self-indulgent. It’s probably not a popular style cake, nowhere near what’s trending right now on Twitter or Google. But you know what? This time I don’t care as its my birthday soon and I wanted to make a cake all for me 😀 I’m usually away with work on my birthday and if I am lucky my ship will be alongside and I can head up the road for a glass of wine or two. But this year I am home and I wanted the chance to bake myself one of my all time favourite cakes, with a favourite filling...

Fruit and Nut Porridge

This is a bit of a double use post; firstly this is a great wholesome breakfast come winter there is always a huge jar of this in my kitchen. It’s quick and easy to whip up for a quick warming hearty breakfast that will keep you easily going till lunchtime. Secondly this fruit and nut porridge makes a really good foodie gift when a little time is taken to layer the ingredients up and given to the recipient in a pretty jar and if you are feeling a little traditional a spurtle can be gifted with it. I feel I am getting a few strange looks from...

Easy Fudgy Brownies

Brownies are so popular because they are so versatile, you can add almost anything to them candy, fruit, nuts, and pretzels the list is pretty long. Most of us have our favourite recipes, our go-to-recipes if you like and I’m going to share mine with you. I love this recipe because it’s so fudgy and chocolaty and to be extra decedent I put a layer of chocolate frosting on top! These brownies don’t need it but I was in a real chocolaty mood. So what makes these so fudgy? It’s the lack of butter and the addition of oil. It stops these going too...

Chai Tea Mix

I’m sorry if I am the first to say this… honestly I am really sorry but Christmas is fast approaching and its time to start thinking of what to get people. Family, friends, neighbours and co-workers sometimes the list can be endless and expensive. So I have set myself the challenge to see if I can help you and me come up with some lovely homemade Christmas presents. Sometimes a lovely homemade gift can be just the thing to give someone to show them that you care. Now for my first idea, Chai Tea Mix, why this you may ask? You see my...

Smores Cupcakes

Very soon here in the UK it’s going to be Guy Fawkes Night! Lot’s of bonfires and fireworks to ooh and ahh at 😀 Now for my non UK friends here is a very quick history for you… Is an annual commemoration observed on 5 November, primarily in Great Britain. Its history begins with the events of 5 November 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords. Celebrating the fact that King James I had survived the attempt on his life, people lit bonfires...

Halloween Spiral Cookies

Its almost Halloween time and I thought I would bring you another recipe for the frightful night. I have to admit to it being one of my favourite holidays; I just love all the amazing treats that are available. And carving a pumpkin is always fun 🙂 I spied this recipe on the amazing website Sprinkle Bakes, some time ago and always wanted to give them a go. Mine are nowhere as perfect as Heathers but I am pleased with the outcome. Where as Heathers are pretty and girly I wanted to give them the Halloween treatment. So I made mine with a black...

No Churn Ice-Cream

Wouldn’t it be great if you could have an easy homemade ice cream that requires no churning and so easy that you could have any flavour you desired? Can such a no churn ice cream exist? Well, now you can! Honestly this is true. I thought it was to good to be true. But it works, its simple, quick to make and the results are a rich creamy ice cream. And the base ice cream only has 3 ingredients. Yep you heard right 3 ingredients. Double (Heavy) cream sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract. Then you just add whatever flavouring takes your...

Sticky Gingerbread

I love a good sticky gingerbread; there is something so comforting about it. When I visit my mum and dad I am always hopeful she has made her gingerbread for me and rarely am I disappointed. This recipe is a tweaked version of my mums cake, not that it needed tweaking but I had a jar of molasses I needed to use up and molasses goes well in ginger cake, makes it that little bit stickier. There are a few things I love about this gingerbread one is the fact its so super easy to make. Everything is mixed in one bowl and you also only need a small...

Halloween Broken Glass Cupcakes

I love Halloween, it’s such a fun season to bake for you can seriously go to town and let you imagination run wild. I remember some years ago seeing these Halloween broken glass cupcakes in either in a magazine or possibly on the internet, it was some years ago and I always wanted to make them, but I’m usually away working during Halloween but this year I am on leave and wanted to give them a go. I decided a lovely red velvet cupcake would be fantastic in this design. Anything to make them a little more ghoulish is always a good thing in my...
